What is Salt Therapy (Halotherapy)

Salt therapy is a natural holistic treatment that involves inhaling pharmaceutical-grade dry salt in a controlled environment.

As you sit back and relax in our zero gravity recliners, a special medical device called a halogenerator will disperse microscopic salt particles into the room. You’ll inhale these tiny particles deep into your airways & lungs. The micro salt particles landing on your skin aid in skin issues like psoriasis and eczema.

Salt Therapy is suitable for all ages, including children and infants.

The benefits of salt therapy were first discovered in 1843 in Poland, where workers in underground salt mines suffered fewer respiratory issues and illnesses.

Salt Boxx offers two options for your holistic Salt Therapy Treatments. The express salt tikis are a 10 minute concentrated session. The Salt Rooms, Beach and Cave, are a 45 minute session while you relax in the zero gravity recliners.

There are two kinds of Salt Rooms

Active Salt Rooms

Salt Boxx provides active Salt Therapy!

1. Active salt rooms include a halogenerator and provide a controlled way of providing micro-particles of salt in the air to be inhaled and exposed to the skin. This can only be done with a special piece of equipment known as a halogenerator. Pure sodium chloride is placed into the halogenerator, which then crushes and grinds the salt into micro-sized particles and disperses the salt aerosol into the air. This type of dry salt therapy is known as Halotherapy.

Passive Salt Rooms

2. Passive salt rooms are man-made environments that are filled with large amounts of varying types of salt such as Dead Sea, Himalayan, Rock Salt, etc. but without a halogenerator. Passive salt rooms are designed to control the climate by regulating the airflow, humidity and temperature to allow for an allergen and pollutant free environment. These passive salt rooms are attempting to provide what is known as Speleotherapy, based on the natural salt caves found throughout Europe, however it is in a man-made environment. Speleotherapy occurs in natural environments that are underground with specific conditions that include atmospheric pressure, air temperature, wind speed, air composition, humidity and other factors that cannot be reproduced in a man-made environment.

Without any halotherapy equipment, it is not recognized as halotherapy. It is a passive salt room that provides a great space for relaxation, meditation and increases psycho-emotional well-being.
